About the Academy
Welcome from the Principal
I am delighted to introduce you to the most exciting development for educational provision on the Isle of Sheppey. The Isle of Sheppey Academy opened in September 2009 and offers excellent educational opportunities for the Island's young people, their families and the community.
The new Academy opened in September 2009 in the existing buildings of Cheyne Middle School and Minster College. From now until 2011, new buildings will transform the two sites to fit the vision and needs of the new Academy, with distinctive and stunning new buildings of a design to which Sheppey students have made so much of a contribution. Every effort will be made to ensure that disruption to students is minimal during the building works and students and parents will be kept fully informed at all stages.
The Isle of Sheppey Academy will raise standards by providing a high quality, complementary, relevant and stimulating learning environment with a curriculum offer that provides an exciting blend of core, academic and vocational options.
Our vision is to develop an Academy, underpinned by a broad Christian ethos, with an approach to learning and teaching that develops relationships, promotes positive human values and encourages students to develop a strong sense of personal, social, moral and spiritual responsibility and self-belief as active learners and citizens in the community.
The Academy's dual specialisms of Business & Enterprise and Sport will be embedded throughout the curriculum to give students access to essential skills such as leadership, teamwork and innovation. The specialisms will also open up enhanced learning opportunities for students such as the Young Enterprise Scheme and Sports Leadership Award.
