New buildings for The Isle of Sheppey Academy confirmed
The Sponsors of The Isle of Sheppey Academy are delighted that the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education, has confirmed that the Academy will receive the anticipated funding for the new buildings.
While the time taken for the Government’s review will have an impact on the scheduled completion date of 2012 for the new build, the Academy can now move confidently to the next stage of its development and the transformation of education on the Island.
Ralph Mainard, Deputy Master External of Dulwich College (Lead Sponsor) commented:
"On behalf of Sponsors, I cannot emphasise enough how pleased we are with this positive news, for students, parents, staff and the Island community. Our vision is to transform education on the Island and to deliver an academic and vocational curriculum in outstanding facilities across the Academy’s two sites. Sponsors remain fully committed to that vision".
Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE, Chair of Governors, said:
"As we reach the close of this academic year, the Board of Governors, together with all the sponsors can now prepare confidently for the new academic year, putting the final plans in place for the new build. At present, whilst we seek to appoint a new Principal, we have assigned Ralph Mainard to work closely with the leadership team of two Executive Heads, the Director of Finance and Operations and the five Heads of School as the building blocks of our Academy are finally set in motion."
