‘It Doesn’t have to happen’ Police Workshop
We were delighted to welcome Amelix Youth Projects to the Isle of Sheppey Academy to discuss misconceptions about youth crime and how to create a radio jingle for a competition with KMFM radio to reduce crime in Kent. A panel of young people and professionals from the radio and marketing industry, including representatives from kmfm and Kent Police will then subsequently judge submissions to the country-wide competition.
60 Year 9 students from Abbey and Harty schools were involved in the project. The sessions were interactive and mixed educational games with information on crime statistics.
The students were split into small teams to create a the jingle for KMFM radio in Kent. The 6 best jingles were then performed in front of all the students at the end of the day.
PC Anne Jones, the Crime Reduction Officer for Swale judged the competition and awarded the winning jingle to, Mary Adeferati, Chanelle Young Paris Brown and Courtney Rowe of Year 9 Abbey School (left to right), who used the catchy title of Love Life, Hate Knife. Their names will be put forward to be judged against other schools in the country taking part in the workshop.
