Harty School - Official Opening

The last of the five schools that make up The Isle of Sheppey Academy was officially opened on June 15th 2010.

Harty family unit at the academy's east site in Minster was formally opened by the leader of Kent County Council, Cllr Paul Carter.

At a ceremony held at the school last week, there were also representatives of Dulwich College, the academy's lead sponsor, Canterbury Diocese, KCC and the Friends of Harty Church.

Members of the community and parents were also invited along.

During the ceremony, a stained glass window based on children's drawings of Harty church was unveiled and there was a show where some of the pupils sang and danced.

Harty pupil, 11-year-old Megan Russon, sang 'Fly Me to the Moon' and members of the school's Parkour group performed.

Food was provided for the guests by GCSE nutrition students.

Ben Corbett, head of Harty school, said: "We are working with the Friends of Harty Church because it's losing it's congregation and it's a beautiful place.

"It was a lovely afternoon and showed the best of the kids here."
