East Site Fitness Event
On Friday the 11th of June students at the Isle of Sheppey Academy had the opportunity to experience a range of fitness activities delivered in a fun and exciting way. A franchise known as Skip2bFit, owned and managed by John McCormack, used a combination of fitness apparatus such as medicine balls, skipping ropes and boxing pads and gloves to engage and challenge students during interactive circuit sessions. Although the franchise is marketed as Skip2bFit, the sessions for the students were more specific to boxing training; hence the name was adapted to Box2bFit. Circuit station exercises aimed at improving a range of fitness components including stamina, speed, agility, muscular endurance and power, whilst also developing core stability, all essential elements which are needed to be successful in a range of different sports.
Immense enjoyment was had by all students who took part and there was a general consensus that developing fitness can actually be extremely fun. Organiser of the fitness event Mr Jason Crofskey, Subject Leader of Physical Education (East Site) said "two GCSE students, Ami Skinner and Zoe Titmarsh, both 15 years of age were so inspired by the exercise stations that they now intend to set up an after school club for students, possibly even for staff. As there was such a fantastic response to the day, the Isle of Sheppey Academy should be able to look forward to increased numbers of students becoming more health and fitness conscious and over the next few months, hopefully we will see a rise in those taking part in extra-curricular activities."
