Generous Support for Poppy Appeal

Sheerness people showed their respect – and Academy students showed their community spirit - on 9th November.

On that day twenty-three sixth formers worked in shifts to man the British Legion table outside Tesco in the town. Donating their efforts in support of the annual poppy appeal, the students maintained a presence from 10am to 7pm and were impressed by the friendliness and generosity of the people they met. Besides selling poppies and associated merchandise, the Academy members asked locals to contribute to a large wreath to be laid at the Sheerness Cenotaph during the Service of Remembrance. The Island cadet force completed the wreath the following day. Shannon Horner, who worked with Claire Webber and Liam Mitchell throughout the evening, said: “We were proud to help a cause that supports servicemen and women and their families, and encourages everyone to reflect on those who have given their lives in conflict.”
