Diggers move in on Academy redevelopment
Diggers have started working at Sheppey Academy’s East site in preparation for its multi-million pound transformation.
Archaeologists brought their equipment into the Minster Road, Minster site during the February school holiday and stayed for about a week to check the Academy’s new buildings will not be constructed on historically important land.
East site executive head teacher David Rahman said it was good news for the redevelopment of this site. He said “They have not released the official report yet but they have found nothing of any sort of historical interest or value.”
With the formality of the archaeologists out of the way, and trenches filled in, Mr Rahman said it is full steam ahead on building the new school.
He said: “We are expecting stuff to arrive on the compound any day now. The plan is that we start in the first week of May. I am looking forward to the first sod being turned. We have got down to the final details. We are looking at carpets and where plug sockets are going to be in each classroom.”
