Curriculum

The Isle of Sheppey Academy has an innovative curriculum at all key stages. Learning is based on age not stage and personalised pathways ensure all levels of ability and aptitude are catered for. Year 6 students are encouraged to join the Academy for an extended transition experience to help bridge the gap between Key Stage 2 and 3 learning.

At Key Stage 3 [Years 7 and 8] students study core and foundation subjects in English, Literacy, Mathematics, Science, MFL, PE, BITE (Business, ICT & Enterprise), PSHCE, Humanities, Creative and Performing Arts and Technology. There is an academic stream in each year group to provide challenge for the most able and nurture groups in all core subjects for those students requiring additional support. Students study in classes from their school community.

Year 9 provides a transition year between Key Stage 3 and 4. Core learning in English, Literacy, Mathematics, Science, PE, BITE and PSHCE is supplemented by the KS4 options programme that includes both academic GCSE, Level 2 BTEC and vocational subjects. Students following the academic pathway commence their GCSE qualifications in core subjects in Year 9 taking English and Mathematics at the end of Year10. Progression for these students include further GCSE and AS Levels routes in Year 11. Students in Years 9 -11 study with students from across the 5 schools. It is anticipated that all students will progress to our Post 16 courses .At Key Stage 5 the Academy offers both academic A levels and BTEC level 2 and 3 qualifications.

The breadth of courses on offer at the Academy exceeds the offer of any other school in Swale. The development of the new Academy buildings will provide us with outstanding facilities to further improve our curriculum offer.
