At the Isle of Sheppey Academy every child has access to a first class business and enterprise education.
As a Business & Enterprise Specialist School we aim to use our specialist status to raise standards of achievement and the quality of learning for all our students. Business & Enterprise related subjects contribute to whole school improvement by developing innovative approaches to teaching and learning. We enrich and extend learning by encouraging economic and business understanding, enterprise activities and opportunities for pupils to follow a wide range of work related learning pathways.
In all subject areas enterprise skills such as communication, problem solving, numeracy, team-working and leadership are being developed through the curriculum, this enhances final grade outcomes for our students.
We provide a distinctive experience for students as we prepare them for the world of work. In our students' first three years, business knowledge, skills and understanding are delivered through enrichment activity and enterprise study units within BITE our new ICT and Business Faculty. This gives students a GCSE equivalent qualification during Key Stage 3 and sets them on the path for further study at BTEC, GCSE or A Level standard.
All students also engage in enterprise and work related learning programmes as part of their entitlement experience. We provide competitions, events and activities within the curriculum as well as during School Tutor time.
We also use Business and ICT programmes to motivate, engage and raise the capacity of local people to make a difference in their own communities. Business and ICT resources are used to enable employers / employees and organisations, families and groups to learn together on their own terms. We have fantastic partners who are dedicated to promoting Enterprise in the community and are continually looking to increase our register.
Enterprise Ambassadors are a group of students that will be tasked with making things happen around the school; this will include taking some of the ideas put forward and setting up their own businesses. If you would like to run your own business with a group of students please let us know.
The Business and Enterprise Specialism will equip students with the skills they need to be successful at school and give them an invaluable edge for their university courses and future careers. Our students are taught how to use their own initiative and become independent self-motivated learners: skills that are vital in this fast moving technological work environment.

Kyle takes Sheppey Apprentice

A group of 14 business savvy youngsters at the Isle of Sheppey Academy battled it out in an Apprentice-style competition. Emotions ran high each week as one or more of the students was fired and just four remained in the final. Reporter Emma Grove was there on Friday to find out who has been named the Isle of Sheppey Academy’s Apprentice 2010.
